The essay aims to investigate the gradual evolution of the social, cultural, and political context that, in the early 1920s, led the circles of the Italian Catholic Youth Society – the first male youth nucleus of Catholic Action – to confront the slow but steady process of fascism’s consolidation in the Castelli Romani area, with particular attention to the situation in the Diocese of Albano Laziale. Through the analysis of a local case, an original perspective is provided to understand the ways in which fascism tried to replace established Catholic educational pathways with its own educational model. Additionally, the essay outlines the original characteristics of a cell of organized antifascism that, formed within the Catholic circles of the Roman periphery, later revealed itself and became part of the network of opposition to fascism.
