Abstract The tragedy of the little known Yazidi community, fiercely persecuted by Daesh since 2014, has shocked the world and has raised questions about the destiny of minorities in the new Middle Eastern asset, and about the strategies to protect and preserve them in the region. The author, who has carried out extensive research on and with the Yazidis since 2013, analyzes their actions and conditions at local, regional and international level. In the past the Yazidis were more vulnerable and virtually unable to react, but the changes occurred in the recent years – more openness, political recognition etc. – due to globalization and the media exposure following the perse- cution, have empowered them also making them a credible interlocutor for the Muslims in the fight against a common enemy such as Daesh. Their appeal for the recognition of their perse- cution as Genocide, promotes them as bearers of fundamental global values

Résumé La tragédie de la communauté mal-connue des Yazidis, violemment persécutée par Daesh depuis 2014, a indigné le monde entier et a posé les questions du destin des minorités dans le nouvel agencement du Moyen-Orient, et de leur protection et préservation dans la région. L’auteure, qui a mené des recherches approfondies sur le sujet et cette communauté et aussi avec ses membres depuis 2013, a analysé leurs actions et leurs conditions aux échelles locales, régionales et internatio- nales. Auparavant, les Yazidis étaient plus vulnérables et pratiquement incapables de réagir. Les changements qui ont eu lieu ces dernières années − davantage d’ouverture, de reconnaissance politique etc. − grâce à la mondialisation et à la visibilité médiatique suite à leur persécution, les ont renforcés, faisant d’eux des interlocuteurs crédibles pour les musulmans dans la lutte contre les ennemis communs tels que Daesh. Leur requête pour que leur persécution soit reconnue comme étant un génocide fait d’eux des porteurs des valeurs universelles et fondamentales.
