This volume of Technische Mechanik contains select papers presented at the 5 th International Conference on Material Modeling (ICMM5), which took place June 14-16, 2017 in the Palazzo Argiletum in Rome, Italy. By all meaningful measures, ICMM5 can be considered as a great success, attracting over 120 participants (ranging from senior colleagues to graduate students) from more than 20 countries, and featuring a technical program that well reflected the state of art in material modeling.
