This paper deals with a classical electromagnetic problem: the analysis of transmission lines, with particular reference to the calculation of the characteristic impedance. The problem, that has a well-known solution for classical transmission lines, becomes much more complex for periodical transmission lines, leading to a Non-symmetric algebraic Riccati equation in the most complex case of periodical multiconductor transmission lines. In this paper we show how to analyze such a kind of networks, how to formulate the problem and a possible solution procedure.

Abstract
