An efficient procedure to express the lightning base current in the frequency domain is presented. The method is based on a decomposition of the time-domain lightning base current expression in a part that can be analytically transformed and in another part that is efficiently approximated by a series of orthogonal polynomial. The method allows to easily compute the coefficients of the series so to have a semi-analytical expression of the lightning base current in the frequency domain. The presented procedure is fast and general, since it can be used with different kinds of current waveshapes.

Abstract

An efficient procedure to express the lightning base current in the frequency domain is presented. The method is based on a decomposition of the time-domain lightning base current expression in a part that can be analytically transformed and in another part that is efficiently approximated by a series of orthogonal polynomial. The method allows to easily compute the coefficients of the series so to have a semi-analytical expression of the lightning base current in the frequency domain. The presented procedure is fast and general, since it can be used with different kinds of current waveshapes.
